I've lived in Brooklyn for the last 7 years, and my fiancé has been here for 10.  We've started talking about leaving.  We love it here, but let's be honest, it's not an easy place to live.  We visit friends in other cities and envy their huge apartments and cheap (in comparison) rent but can't imagine ourselves living in those places.  I've been a bartender the entire time I've lived here and have found it really hard to find a job that isn't in the service industry.  I am thankful that I have a job, but serving people drinks isn't my life's calling.

Anyway, we want to move to a place where our main mode of transpiration is our feet.  We want to walk to the butcher, farmer's market and movie theatre.  We're okay with having a car, but we definitely don't want to have to use it everyday.  Any suggestions?

Michelle, I am wondering what you have decided?  I was going to suggest either Portland.....or you may really like Boston (Sommerville to be exact)

Boston is fantastic. may also be expensive for your taste,

i wouldnt suggest jumping straight off the east coast
depends if you prefer hot or cold, visit a few places for vacation.

try Phili, Norfolk, even Rhode Island might be a refreshing change.
