Has anyone visited here? What did you think about it? Las Vegas is one of my favorite places. I've visited three times: the first time for my twenty-first birthday, the second time as a graduation present a few years later and the third time in April of this year. I enjoy the sights and sounds of Vegas, but I actually like the town of Las Vegas itself. It's completely different from New York City, as I know most places are, but there's something special about Vegas. I've been to Asheville, San Francisco, Fort Lauderdale, Dallas... but there's something about Southern Nevada and even Arizona for that matter. Maybe it's the weather. Maybe it's the geography. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Huh. I've visited once. It was at the end of a trip to middle-of-nowhere Utah, so I liked Vegas a lot more than I expected - simply because it was nice to be in city energy again. I have to admit that it still confounds me that people live there - it doesn't click with me in that way at all. But I've never explored beyond the strip so maybe that's why. I can recognize that there is a certain magic to flat, desert lands.

I can understand what you said about city energy and I agree. That's one reason why I would consider being there: 24 hour pharmacies and Wal-Marts! If/when I travel outside of the city, I like knowing that I can buy what I need on a Sunday night at 8pm. I'm not usually up at this wee small hour of the morning! Las Vegas is flat lands surrounded by mountains, which for some reason, I love. I took out some books from the good ole Brooklyn Public Library and started reading the history of Las Vegas. Did you know that it started out as a spring in the middle of nowhere?! "Las vegas" is Spanish for "the meadow." In the middle of the desert -- water! Vegetation! An anomaly. I love that. Also, the city was founded by Mormons. They don't drink alcohol, smoke, gamble, drink coffee... which is the exact opposite of Vegas now (another anomaly?). I'll get a better idea of what I'm doing when I go out there in July.

By the way, I love your not-so-secret-anymore blog. Thank you for starting it and thank you for this forum. Regardless of where I end up, I really appreciate having a place I can go to that is open and honest about NYC and it's greatness *and* shortcomings in a respectful way.

Just an update: I've been living in Las Vegas for a little more than 8 months now and I love it! I still get homesick for New York sometimes but don't want to move back. I love it out here too much!
