You may have noticed that we have re-named and re-designed the site to focus on the ex-New Yorker community! We are really excited about this new direction, and hope you are, too! Here's a bit more background on how we got to this point, and why we've made this shift.

When we launched this project in the spring of 2009, Mari had recently moved from New York to Boulder, and Anna was living in New York struggling with the idea of leaving. We wanted a way to explore that period of transition that we were both experiencing, a transition we estimated took 3 steps and roughly 2 years: one year in NYC getting up the nerve to leave; actually moving; and then a year afterward to adjust to the post-NYC lifestyle.

So we wanted the name of our project to express the uncertainty that we – and others who had left or were considering leaving New York – were experiencing. Hence: “Is There Life After New York?”

Over the past 2 years, our lives, and therefore our priorities, have changed. Anna has joined the Ex-New Yorker ranks, moving to Asheville, NC; and Mari has made a life for herself in Boulder. We have both come to answer the question of “Is There Life After New York?” with a resounding “YES.” In addition, we have discovered that the world is full of Ex-New Yorkers who really enjoy keeping a connection with NYC and with others who have lived there.

As a result, we have decided to shift the focus of the site.

Not an ex-New Yorker? Don’t worry! We will continue to welcome "questioning" and life-long New Yorkers as well, as we believe those perspectives are essential to understanding post-NYC life. Our new mission is not meant to limit our membership, but to focus our energies as we grow this community. We hope the site will remain a resource for New Yorkers of all stripes.

We are very excited about this new direction and its potential to create a large and active community! We have many plans for the future... So join us for the ride, and let us know if you have any ideas for making Life After New York a more fun and meaningful community for you! You can reach us any time at lifeafternyc@gmail.com.

Thanks!
Anna & Mari
