You have to check out this amazing piece in the Times - Scents and the City. The writer lists every scent he senses in each neighborhood of Manhattan. A couple of my favorites are "suburban shampoo" (Bowery), "faux-leather fanny pack" (Tribeca), and "mostly urine" (The Pay Phone Scent).

I think it's a unique tribute to the diversity of NYC, as well as a reminder of the savory and less savory surprises the city has to offer.

i love this! my favorite is the east harlem section, which includes "Russian sage (very faint)" and "deep-fried Oreos."
