Well, yes...and no. You could probably blame Frank Sinatra (originally a New Jersey-ite) for the former (it seemed as if he was crooning to a female as if "she" symbolized a place - NY). The "female" NY personna, in my mind, probably would be in a form of Ava Gardner - cool, sharp wit, tough, sarcastic and independent. On the other hand, the "male" NY personna reminds me of a character from a Scorsese or W. Allen film. I found those type of "characters" often grating or aggressive.
