Have I "successfully" left NY if I never stop missing it and desperately wish I could afford to live a satisfying middle class family life there? Or have I just "successfully" moved to Pittsburgh when I finally learn to shut up about what's missing here?

moved out of nyc a couple of years ago, now living in pittsburgh for the past 1.5 years. i miss the city miserably, and go there at every opportunity. to be fair, pittsburgh has been slowly growing on me, charming place. but then again there's only one new york.

No one can ever fully leave NY. It's like a virus. It's always with you

Leaving NYC was a transition.....went to Cali first and absolutely loved it....while working for Google moved to the Big D.....I gotta say I miss NYC....the smell, the people, the nightlife....and so much more to do. Everything around here closes at 9 and it sucks.

I think the Old New York, was amazing.  I am not so sure if I enjoyed it the same way when I was almost trampled on by the new people there on West 4th Street when I visited in 2011. What happened on West 4th? Sorry, but that used to be a fairly quiet,  somewhat exclusive, and intellectual neighborhood... So,  I think in many ways, I am, probably, in love with a memory.  That being said, I will always be a New Yorker, and IT IS the greatest city - that is why, clearly, Everyone wants to live there!  God Bless NY

I want to hear more about NY in the 80s!
What specifically do you miss?
